A former interior designer, Francis Smith worked in the studios of Juan Pablo Molyneux, Eric Cohler, and others. It was while working with Cohler that Smith's photographs first began appearing in many home and lifestyle publications. In his photography, Smith delights in the rigorous discipline of translating a beautiful, three-dimensional interior into a beautiful, two-dimensional photograph.
Classically trained, Francis Smith studied art history at Vassar College, specializing in Italian Renaissance painting, with independent studies in photography. In his free time he still studies art history, and natural history, too. A native of Westport, Connecticut, he resides in the District of Columbia.
